When planning your next vacation, look no further than Ocean City, New Jersey. With the beach, boardwalk, and downtown areas, you'll never be bored!

Ocean City, New Jersey is a place that has been called “America's Greatest Family Resort.” Located in Cape May County, New Jersey, Ocean City offers about eight miles of white beaches. In OCNJ, there’s always something to do. Below I have highlighted several “must-dos” while on your vacation.

1. Surrey or bike ride

One of the best ways to see Ocean City is by surrey or bike. These can be rented by the hour from a variety of locations. On any given morning, the boardwalk, which stretches 2.5 miles, is crowded with these vehicles, as well as with runners and pedestrians. It can be a challenge to get onto the boardwalk with all this traffic, but once in the flow, it is easy to maneuver. Families may elect a four-person surrey for a new adventure, while couples may prefer bicycles. It is fun to view stores, backs and backyards of houses, as well as the beach—all from the boardwalk. Plus, it’s a great way to get some exercise before a day at the beach!

2. Hit the beach

This point is pretty obvious: if you’re going to vacation in a beach town, might as well go to the beach. Tags are required to enter the beach, with weekly tags costing $10 and seasonal costing $25. Day passes are also available. During the summertime, most beaches are guarded. Beachgoers can swim between green flags while guards are on duty. It’s fun to go for walks on the beaches or play paddleball. The water is warm and usually has quite a bit of waves during summer months.

3. Walk the boardwalk

The boardwalk at Ocean City is a popular spot for people to go during evening hours, as well, whether it is to go out to dinner or to a specific spot, or just to go on a fun stroll and watch the passersby. Buy a shirt with a quote inspired by cast members of the Jersey Shore or a hermit crab. Thursday night is family night, with music and face painting among the fun activities.

4. Journey downtown

The Ocean City Chamber of Commerce cites Asbury Avenue shopping as “ the heart of [the] quintessential small town.” It’s a truly cute area of shops that look just like houses. B & B Department Store is a popular shopping stop for many visitors. It’s always a wait to get a dressing room so try wearing a bathing suit there and trying on in the store itself!

5. What to eat

One of my favorite parts about Ocean City? The food. There is so much to choose from—you’ll never run out of options, like the ones listed below:

Mallon’s

These sticky buns are the best of the best. Mallon's stick buns have “been a family tradition since 1988.” Try them plain or with nuts, raisins, or both.

Mack and Manco

Mack and Manco pizza is “world famous” in New Jersey. It’s important to plan on a wait before getting your food. Believe me, you won’t be sorry you did. Pizza makers at the restaurant have an assembly line of pizzas going constantly. The pizza is flat and has the perfect amount of spices, sauce, and cheese. Careful—it’s more filling than it looks.

Kohr Brothers Frozen Custard

A dish of this frozen custard is a great way to end the night, or for something to have in the middle of a hot day. There are many options available, from your basic vanilla and chocolate twist to a strawberry banana twist. The flavors are rich and creamy and totally satisfying.

Ocean City, NJ is an enjoyable place for everyone. My bet is that after you’ve experienced it one year, you’ll want to go back every year afterwards.
